The difficult beginning of the musician's career.
While Pietro Mascagni is composing Guglielmo Ratcliff neglects the lessons and is removed from the Conservatory of Milan. When pushed by necessity, he accepts the post of conductor of the opera company Maresca, with which he starts a tour that takes him to several Italian cities.
In Genoa she falls in love with Lina, who will be destined to become his wife and inspirational muse.
